Christmas in July?

I help with the Newsletter for Abuelita’s Knitting and Needlepoint and I started a new section called “Gift-ology.”  The idea is to share potential knitting, crocheting, stitching, and craft gift ideas.  I thought that you might to see the ideas I shared for July.

Each month I will find a few different things to post.  Most will be about knitting, but you never know what will inspire me.  And feel free to suggest other things and I may share them.

Cable Me Cozy Wrapped

Cable Me Cozy Wrapped in Cellophane and with a Ribbon and Instant Coffee

Cable Me Cozy (Knit)

A quick cabled cozy knit out of Cascade 128.  One skein makes about 5 – 6 cozies so these are very economical.  Add a $1 Starbucks cup, a cellophane wrap, and a ribbon and you have a cute gift for a friend, teacher, or someone else you want to remember.   Add a gift card to a coffee shop and you have something special.  The pattern is free on Ravelry.  Abuelita’s will offer this as a project class in the August.

Chester’s Simple Cable Cowl

Simple Cable Cowl (Knit) – by Chester Lagmay

This cowl can be worn a multitude of ways, and can easily be adapted to fit any adult neck.  This pattern looks great on men and women and uses bulky yarn so knits up quickly.  Knit a few to have on hand when you need a gift.  The pattern, available for free on Ravelry, includes both written instructions as well as a chart and was designed by Abuelita’s instructor, Chester Lagmay.  Abuelita’s periodically offers this design as a project class.

South Bay Shawlette by Lion Brand

South Bay Shawlette

South Bay Shawlette (Crochet) – by Lion Brand

Crocheted out one skein of ITO Sensai (silk and mohair) this stunning shawlette and is light as air.  The pattern is simple to memorize and the yarn is so light you can carry it everywhere.  Crochet a quick gift for someone special.  The colors of the yarn are stunning so stop by and pick up a skein today.  This is a free pattern from Lion Brand yarn.

Very practical ideas. I like that the cowl and cup cosy can also be for men.
